Barbara Fair, RN, MHA, CCM, CMAC
Barbara Fair, RN, MHA, CCM, CMAC, a Senior Consultant, brings a unique blend of health care experience to the Phoenix team. Most recently, Barbara completed her tenure as Director, Case Management at HCA’s 350 bed Plantation General Hospital in Florida where she was also manager of the RAC demonstration project. Prior to that she held several leadership positions in Women’s and Children’s Services at hospitals in Massachusetts, Maryland and Florida. Barbara’s considerable hospital experience is balanced by her positions on the payer side of the industry. She was the Director of Ambulatory Obstetrics/Gynecology and Pediatrics for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts and then Coordinator of Obstetrics and Pediatrics for the HIP Network of Florida.
BK Kizzar, RNC, CCM, CLCP
BK Kizzar, RNC, CCM, CLCP is a Senior Consultant. BK began her case management career in 1986 and rapidly assumed leadership positions. She served as Director of Case Management and Program Director for Brain Injury at a premier rehab facility, Director of Case Management for a national managed care organization, and Associate Vice President of Case Management for LifeCare Hospitals in Plano, Texas. As a certified life care planner, BK consults with plaintiff and defense, specializing in medical malpractice liability and persistent vegetative state and in addition, she manages a caseload of private case management clients. BK is the Past President and former Executive Director of the Dallas Ft Worth Chapter of the CMSA and chaired the national CMSA Case Manager of the Year Award committee.
Jeff Feeney, MHA, FACHE
Jeff Feeney, MHA, FACHE is an Associate Consultant and seasoned hospital administrator with a blend of leadership and CEO experience almost equally split between the largest, successful, not-for-profit systems and the largest, successful, investor-owned systems. From senior leadership positions within the Daughters of Charity Health System, Jeff moved into the for-profit arena as Associate Administrator then Chief Executive Officer at HCA hospitals in Florida. He then served as Chief Executive Officer, Halstead Hospital, Halstead (Wichita) Kansas and Chief Executive Officer, Paracelsus Regional Hospital and Medical Center, Salt Lake City, Utah. He subsequently held executive positions with the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration in Chicago, Trinity Health in California, Tenet Health in Florida, and Executive Vice President, for Spinemark, Inc. Jeff serves as an advisor to the Phoenix consulting team in the areas of strategic planning, organizational structure and physician relationships.
Steven J Meyerson, MD
Steven J Meyerson is a graduate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NY and is Board certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine. He practiced medicine in Florida until 2004 when he was recruited to serve as Medical Director of the hospitalist program at Baptist Hospital in Miami. Subsequently, his role broadened and he became a full time Medical Director and Physician Advisor for the Care Management program. He left Baptist and joined AccretivePAS as Senior VP of Regulations and Education where he earned a national reputation as the ‘go to’ person for Medicare regulatory compliance. Dr. Meyerson is now doing free-lance consulting and joined Phoenix as an Associate Consultant.
Kathleen Mantaro, MD
Kathleen Mantaro, MD is a 1990 graduate of Albany Medical College and is board certified in Internal Medicine. As an Associate Consultant, Dr. Mantaro brings her considerable experience as a case management Medical Director at Vassar Bros. Medical Center, a revenue cycle champion, and a medical documentation advisor to the Phoenix team. Working with her medical staff colleagues, Dr. Mantaro has improved utilization of clinical resources and reversed over $2 million in hospital denials through more assertive use of nationally recognized acute care criteria and establishing an outpatient/observation service.
Alan Cudney, RN-BC, MBA, CPHQ, PMP, FACHE
As registered nurse, Alan is deeply grounded in processes and technology at the patient level. His healthcare experience of more than 30 years crosses hospital settings, managed care, disease management, outpatient psychiatry, long-term care and two IT vendors. Alan’s consulting experience has been developed through directly staffing or leading more than 40 engagements, as well as developing high performing teams and performing multiple leadership roles. His work in IT design and optimization, population health, clinical informatics, care coordination and quality improvement has resulted in multiple success stories and client testimonials.
Sandra Miller, MD
Sandra Miller, MD, Board certified in Internal Medicine, is a Physican Executive with over 15 years experience in clinical documentation improvement, utilization review and management, case management, and denials prevention and recovery. Her experience includes management of a large case management department, utilization review for a major commercial insurance company and most recently a medical director position responsible for oversight of clinicians involved in denials recovery. Before joining Phoenix as an Associate Consultant, Dr. Miller was Senior Medical Director at MedAssets and Medical Director of Medical Management at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Julie Hyland, RN, MSN
Julie Hyland, RN, MSN has an extensive healthcare career and one that has focused on hospital operations and improving the patient experience. Julie is a graduate of D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY with a BS in Nursing and Villanova University where she received her Master’s in Nursing Administration. Julie was the Chief Nursing Officer and the Chief Operating Officer MossRehab in Philadelphia where she worked for 16 years. She also was the Chief Nursing Officer and interim CEO at Temple Children’s Medical Center in Philadelphia. Julie also provided administrative oversight for human resources, lab, radiology and therapies at Temple University Hospital. Julie is an avid teacher and frequent lecturer on healthcare operations and, in particular, improving the patient experience.
Blake J. Williamson, MD, MS, FACPE
Blake J. Williamson, MD, MS, FACPE, has cultivated a reputation for helping hospitals understand and manage the risks associated with constant changes while delivering clinical business objectives. Prior to his solo consulting practice, Dr. Williamson was the CMO at BCBS of Kansas City, MO. In this position he launched successful patient-centered medical home projects and redesigned the medical management model. Before his tenure at BCBS, Dr. Williamson was a consultant at Milliman USA where he led multiple engagements to optimize delivery of care operations, manage costs, and improve the quality of care with analytical tools and groundbreaking clinical and cost guidelines. Prior to Milliman, Dr. Williamson was the Senior VP of Network Development with Asante Health Systems, a primary care medical group. Dr. Williamson is graduate of University of Nebraska and is Board Certified in Family Practice.
Lisa Flamm, MS, RN, CCM
Lisa Flamm, MS, RN, CCM is a Senior Consultant with an outstanding track record of acute care case management leadership. She expanded her skill set to include designing programs that centrally integrate care coordination activities between the hospital and its post acute partners. As the Clinical Resource Management Director at a former Tennessee client, Lisa is a proud booster of a contemporary, progression of care model and facilitated its maturation since 2006 across the system's three acute care facilities. Subsequently, as the Director of Care Management/St. Louise Outpatient Clinic at St. Thomas Health, a member of Ascension Health in Murfreesboro, Lisa captured opportunities to standardize processes and workflow to generate measurable care coordination success for the network. She is accustomed to using data to drive change and improvement and is a pro-active problem-solver on behalf of the client's many stakeholders.
John Reynolds, LCSW, CCM
John is a versatile, creative, results oriented leader with more than 20+ years of health care leadership experience. He has been a participant in the evolution of care management since the early 1990s in several New York City hospitals and is known for his talent as a transformation expert. Under his project management or interim leadership, hospital case programs have gained value in the eyes of the C-suite and generated sustainable bottom line clinical and financial outcomes. John is as comfortable providing psychosocial counseling as he is in leading a care management program in a 1000 bed hospital! Versatile indeed! We are delighted that John is part of the Phoenix team.
Patti Pittman, RN-BC, CCM, CCP
Welcome to Patti Pittman, RN-BC, CCM, CCP as one of our newest Associate Consultants. Patti came to us following her tenure at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Flower Mound and brings her considerable expertise in case management and utilization review to our team. Patti's experiences on the firing line and as a case management leader exposed her to the electronic resources that case managers use to promote progression -of-care and which utilization review specialists use to promote compliance with contractual and statutory regulations. Patti was named case manager of the year in 2008 at the Dallas-Fort Worth CMSA chapter and served as their President, Recording Secretary and Community Liaison.
Linda Easterly, MS, BSN
With over 35 years of health care experience, Linda L. Easterly, MS, BSN, joins PhoenixMed as an Associate Consultant after retiring from her case management consulting firm. Well known in the industry as providing state-of-the-art education and training services, Ms. Easterly uses her wealth of clinical nursing and management expertise to assist providers to successfully meet today’s financial and clinical challenges. Her experience includes internal and external consulting in over 30 states throughout the nation, senior and middle management hospital positions and clinical nursing roles. Ms. Easterly earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and a Master of Science degree in Health Services Administration from the College of St. Francis. She also completed a two year management program offered by Louisiana State University and Our Lady of the Lake College. She maintains CPQH certification through the Healthcare Quality Certification Commission.
Joan E. Forrer, RN, BSN, LSSMBB
Joan E. Forrer, RN, BSN, LSSMBB is a seasoned healthcare professional and a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Joan has held leadership positions in the healthcare industry including hospitals, insurance, labor and consulting. As a project executive with Johnson and Johnson and Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Joan managed extensive redesign projects focused on improving care processes to streamline patient progression-of-care. Using tools from Lean, Six Sigma, GE WorkOut and Master Facilitation, Joan has led the implementation of process management models which have been successful in simplifying the complexity of progression-of-care from both a physician and organziational perspective. Joan brings a unique perspective to coordinate and improve case management workflow activities.
Bruce Kupper, MHA, FACHE
Bruce Kupper, MHA, FACHE is an Associate Consultant specializing in human resources and operational re-engineering. Currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of Richmond Eye & Ear Healthcare Alliance, Inc. in Richmond, Va., Bruce has over 30 years of experience in health care administration and has held executive positions in large teaching, community based, children’s and outpatient surgical hospitals with special interest and expertise in ambulatory care. A former Director of Consulting Services with the McFaul & Lyons Group of Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Systems, Inc., Bruce oversaw hospital-wide re-engineering and care management consulting engagements across the United States and Canada. He was a featured speaker for a number of HFMA and ACHE national and regional seminars on such topics as re-engineering and creative management skills.
Matthew J Lambert, III, M.D., M.B.A.
Matthew J. Lambert III, MD, re-joins PhoenixMed following his recent retirement as Senior Vice President of Kaufman Hall. He has more than 40 years of healthcare experience working as a physician, healthcare executive, and board member. He was a member of Kaufman Hall’s Strategic and Financial Planning practice, focused on assisting hospitals and health systems with integrated strategic and financial planning, service line planning/distribution across systems, and medical staff planning/physician alignment strategy. Dr. Lambert held senior executive positions at several Chicago area hospitals. He also has provided consultation to hospitals and health systems in the areas of physician relations and the continuity of care. Earlier in his career, he was a faculty member in the Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Tammy Corley, RN, BSN
Before Tammy Corley, RN, BSN joined Phoenix as an Associate Consultant, she headed a project with Compirion Healthcare Solutions to improve hospital processes at a Top Ten ranked US academic center. The hospital succeeded in reducing length of stay and improving patient satisfaction and patient flow. She also collaborated with the Care Coordination department to design and implement a hospital wide Care Coordination model specific to the facility's needs. Previously, she was Director of Care Management and Marketing Director at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock, AR and was a member of the Senior Management Team. Tammy has followed the evolution of hospital case management practice through its many iterations since 1997 and is a dedicated supporter of HCM v.3.0: the latest version of a hospital case management model which partners case managers with selected physicians to co-manage progression-of-care.
