John Zelem, MD
As an accomplished Corporate Executive and Physician Advisor, John Zelem has experience in Compliance, Regulatory Guidance, Utilization Review, process improvement, and Physician Advisor program development and training. He has a history of successfully analyzing and helping implement best practices for Utilization Review/Management, developing a unique approach to drill down and improve physician documentation for medical necessity with collateral benefit for CDI. Using skills learned in motivational speaking and authorship, John has written for and presented to national, local, and specialty organizations engaging executives and physicians. Mark S. Schnitzer, MD, FACS, CPHQ, FACHE
Dr. Mark Schnitzer is an experienced Physician Advisor and Medical Director. Before embarking on the transition to non-clinical roles, Dr. Schnitzer practiced neurosurgery in Southern California for 15+ years while cultivating an interest in medical staff governance and responsible stewardship of healthcare resources. Dr. Schnitzer is board certified in healthcare quality and management by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians with added qualification as a Physician Advisor. He is a certified professional in healthcare quality by the National Association for Healthcare Quality. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Dr. Schnitzer has provided a number of invited presentations in the areas of healthcare informatics and patient safety and he serves as an examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
Jeff Feeney, MHA, FACHE
Jeff Feeney, MHA, FACHE is an Associate Consultant and seasoned hospital administrator with a blend of leadership and CEO experience almost equally split between the largest, successful, not-for-profit systems and the largest, successful, investor-owned systems. From senior leadership positions within the Daughters of Charity Health System, Jeff moved into the for-profit arena as Associate Administrator then Chief Executive Officer at HCA hospitals in Florida. He then served as Chief Executive Officer, Halstead Hospital, Halstead (Wichita) Kansas and Chief Executive Officer, Paracelsus Regional Hospital and Medical Center, Salt Lake City, Utah. He subsequently held executive positions with the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration in Chicago, Trinity Health in California, Tenet Health in Florida, and Executive Vice President, for Spinemark, Inc. Jeff serves as an advisor to the Phoenix consulting team in the areas of strategic planning, organizational structure and physician relationships.
Kathleen Mantaro, MD
Kathleen Mantaro, MD is a 1990 graduate of Albany Medical College and is board certified in Internal Medicine. As an Associate Consultant, Dr. Mantaro brings her considerable experience as a case management Medical Director at Vassar Bros. Medical Center, a revenue cycle champion, and a medical documentation advisor to the Phoenix team. Working with her medical staff colleagues, Dr. Mantaro has improved utilization of clinical resources and reversed over $2 million in hospital denials through more assertive use of nationally recognized acute care criteria and establishing an outpatient/observation service.
Alan Cudney, MBA, MHS, RN-BC, CPHQ, PMP, CSM, FACHE
Alan Cudney is a healthcare performance improvement leader with more than 30 years of expertise in improving the quality and efficiency of care in acute, post-acute, and managed care settings. Mr. Cudney specializes in case management, performance analytics, clinical IT optimization, and population health management. With more than 40 consulting engagements and multiple leadership roles, his work has resulted in multiple success stories and client testimonials. As a recognized thought leader, Mr. Cudney has presented at national and regional conferences and has published many articles, papers, and blogs. He has also contributed to textbooks on clinical informatics and hospital case management and is on the editorial review boards of the Journal of Hospital Administration and Case Management Monthly.
Sandra Miller, MD
Sandra Miller, MD, Board certified in Internal Medicine, is a Physican Executive with over 15 years experience in clinical documentation improvement, utilization review and management, case management, and denials prevention and recovery. Her experience includes management of a large case management department, utilization review for a major commercial insurance company and most recently a medical director position responsible for oversight of clinicians involved in denials recovery. Before joining Phoenix as an Associate Consultant, Dr. Miller was Senior Medical Director at MedAssets and Medical Director of Medical Management at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Blake J. Williamson, MD, MS, FACPE
Blake J. Williamson, MD, MS, FACPE, has cultivated a reputation for helping hospitals understand and manage the risks associated with constant changes while delivering clinical business objectives. Prior to his solo consulting practice, Dr. Williamson was the CMO at BCBS of Kansas City, MO. In this position he launched successful patient-centered medical home projects and redesigned the medical management model. Before his tenure at BCBS, Dr. Williamson was a consultant at Milliman USA where he led multiple engagements to optimize delivery of care operations, manage costs, and improve the quality of care with analytical tools and groundbreaking clinical and cost guidelines. Prior to Milliman, Dr. Williamson was the Senior VP of Network Development with Asante Health Systems, a primary care medical group. Dr. Williamson is graduate of University of Nebraska and is Board Certified in Family Practice.
Lisa Flamm, MS, RN, CCM
Lisa Flamm, MS, RN, CCM is a Senior Consultant with an outstanding track record of acute care case management leadership. She expanded her skill set to include designing programs that centrally integrate care coordination activities between the hospital and its post acute partners. As the Clinical Resource Management Director at a former Tennessee client, Lisa is a proud booster of a contemporary, progression of care model and facilitated its maturation since 2006 across the system's three acute care facilities. Subsequently, as the Director of Care Management/St. Louise Outpatient Clinic at St. Thomas Health, a member of Ascension Health in Murfreesboro, Lisa captured opportunities to standardize processes and workflow to generate measurable care coordination success for the network. She is accustomed to using data to drive change and improvement and is a pro-active problem-solver on behalf of the client's many stakeholders.
John Reynolds, LCSW, CCM
John is a versatile, creative, results oriented leader with more than 20+ years of health care leadership experience. He has been a participant in the evolution of care management since the early 1990s in several New York City hospitals and is known for his talent as a transformation expert. Under his project management or interim leadership, hospital case programs have gained value in the eyes of the C-suite and generated sustainable bottom line clinical and financial outcomes. John is as comfortable providing psychosocial counseling as he is in leading a care management program in a 1000 bed hospital! Versatile indeed! We are delighted that John is part of the Phoenix team.
Joan E. Forrer, RN, BSN, LSSMBB
Joan E. Forrer, RN, BSN, LSSMBB is a seasoned healthcare professional and a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Joan has held leadership positions in the healthcare industry including hospitals, insurance, labor and consulting. As a project executive with Johnson and Johnson and Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Joan managed extensive redesign projects focused on improving care processes to streamline patient progression-of-care. Using tools from Lean, Six Sigma, GE WorkOut and Master Facilitation, Joan has led the implementation of process management models which have been successful in simplifying the complexity of progression-of-care from both a physician and organziational perspective. Joan brings a unique perspective to coordinate and improve case management workflow activities.
Matthew J Lambert, III, M.D., M.B.A.
Matthew J. Lambert III, MD, re-joins PhoenixMed following his recent retirement as Senior Vice President of Kaufman Hall. He has more than 40 years of healthcare experience working as a physician, healthcare executive, and board member. He was a member of Kaufman Hall’s Strategic and Financial Planning practice, focused on assisting hospitals and health systems with integrated strategic and financial planning, service line planning/distribution across systems, and medical staff planning/physician alignment strategy. Dr. Lambert held senior executive positions at several Chicago area hospitals. He also has provided consultation to hospitals and health systems in the areas of physician relations and the continuity of care. Earlier in his career, he was a faculty member in the Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Tammy Corley, RN, BSN
Before Tammy Corley, RN, BSN joined Phoenix as an Associate Consultant, she headed a project with Compirion Healthcare Solutions to improve hospital processes at a Top Ten ranked US academic center. The hospital succeeded in reducing length of stay and improving patient satisfaction and patient flow. She also collaborated with the Care Coordination department to design and implement a hospital wide Care Coordination model specific to the facility's needs. Previously, she was Director of Care Management and Marketing Director at Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock, AR and was a member of the Senior Management Team. Tammy has followed the evolution of hospital case management practice through its many iterations since 1997 and is a dedicated supporter of HCM v.3.0: the latest version of a hospital case management model which partners case managers with selected physicians to co-manage progression-of-care.
